As you might guess, this blog’s main focus is on cooking. Come on in and get comfortable. We’ll talk about food & swap recipes. This is my first blogging attempt so expect a learning curve as I play with design & adding media. I’m in the process of starting a cake business so there will be a lot of baking discussions. However, I like to COOK!. As I’ve told Jim: you keep eating & I’ll keep cooking.

Last week I almost had a case of frostbite. Having nothing to do (ROTFL), my eldest asked me if I wanted to make Angel’s birthday cake. I have tons to do trying to get some things finished up before school starts again & shouldn’t add it to my plate, BUT being grandma of course I said “SURE”!! I had already promised Sarah months ago that I would make her a Goth Tinkerbell ice cream cake for her birthday. (At our house, summer birthdays always got ice cream cakes & Carrie has continued it with Angel.) Their birthdays are August 16 & 17. Playing in ice cream constantly is VERY COLD!!

Angel is getting a chocolate cake with chocolate & vanilla ice cream marbled in between (Baskin Robbins style). She’s a huge care bear freak & GrumpyBear is her favorite. Made a 1/4 sheet cake & going to put GrumpyBear on it WITH devil horns & tail. For reasons that are obvious to all of us who know & love her, she was nicknamed Lucifer years ago. Thus the horns & tail. lol Not sure what they use for icing. Have read all kinds of different things all from people that claimed they worked there. A big favorite has been whipped topping. Blah. No taste. So I am experimenting with @60% buttercream & @40% whipped topping. Can’t just use buttercream or I’ll just have a care bear made of brick on the cake. It’s not as sweet as the buttercream which will be good. We’ll see how it freezes. I have some globs in the freezer now testing it out.

Sarah’s has been the real pain. She doesn’t like the Baskin Robbins cakes. One year I talked her into trying

one, she got mad & pouted because there was cake in hers the. ROTFL! She’s a Dairy Queen cake girl all the way. She wanted Tinkerbell on a heart shaped cake, but no way. Too many people for the biggest heart pan I have. Money for more cake pans is NOT in the picture at the moment. So it’s a 10″ round cake. Chocolate chip & chocolate ice creams layers with the cookie crumbs & fudge sauce center. Frozen fingers, but the cakes are coming along good.

Ooooooo almost forgot to mention that last Thursday Sarah & I went with Carrie & her crew to a farm in Sale Creek. Blueberry picking!! Yum! So now I have blueberries in the freezer & some in the refrigerator to play with. ????? Not sure yet what I’ll do with them. Although last weekend I did pick up some puff pastry & made turnovers with some of them. Even Sarah ate two of them & she’s not a big blueberry fan. So now I need to try my hand at making some puff pastry instead of buying it. Got to be ready for apple season. I can expect Sarah to hound me for apple turnovers as they are her favorite.

Canned 2 pints of tomatoes. Don’t laugh! I know that’s not many, but my tomatoes are just beginning to come in & they were MINE. Many more pints to go before being set for the year, but at least I’ve started now. Picked my first squash tonight. Generous person that I am, I did share it with Jim. Went good with the chicken salad I had for lunch.

If you know of a good puff pastry recipe for a newbie, send it my way!
